The 2010s covers in the archive move in almost opposite directions. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy centers a George Condo painting built to provoke. Yeezus then presents the physical CD in a clear case with only a strip of red tape, making the absence of conventional sleeve art part of the design. The Life of Pablo shifts again, using Peter De Potter's orange field, repeated black type and family photographs to make the sleeve feel immediate, rough and intentionally unresolved.

Those three releases are why a single phrase such as 'Kanye West cover style' is misleading. The more useful pattern is the willingness to change the visual rules from album to album.
